Becoming a Firefighter

Like many Minnesota fire departments, the Lakeville Fire Department is comprised of paid-on-call firefighters. We are currently seeking firefighters for Stations 2 and 3. However, we encourage everyone to attend one of the informational meetings. Each applicant, after being accepted, must complete extensive training before becoming a full member.

2019 Recruitment Process and Timeline:

  1. Informational meetings (only attend 1) - April 25 at 9 a.m., May 4 at 9 a.m. or May 9 at 7 p.m.  Your spouse or significant other is encouraged to attend so they can see the time commitment that will be required of you.    Complete and submit an online form to register for one of these informational meetings.
  2. Written test (30 minutes - only attend 1) - June 11 at 6:30 p.m. or June 15 at  10 a.m.
  3. Physical agility test - June 29,  9 a.m.-12 p.m.
  4. Interviews (30 minutes) - July 20
  5. Background checks processed
  6. Medical assessments - week of August 5
  7. Appointment
  8. Orientation
All meetings and tests will be held at Fire Station #1, 20190 Holyoke Avenue. Dates and times are subject to change. You must complete an online application on our Human Resources page. The online application will be available beginning May 6 and will close June 15.

Probationary Period

Candidates who meet the requirements in the document below are taken on as probationary firefighters. During the 2-year probationary period, firefighters undergo a regimen of training and testing before becoming a full member.
