Vision:Downtown is a unique, identifiable and thriving business district.
Historic downtown Lakeville is located in the southeast part of the city on Holyoke Avenue, just a few blocks off of Cedar Avenue. It is home to unique local shops and businesses, as well as the City’s United States Post Office and the Lakeville Area Arts Center.
Downtown Development Guide
The Downtown Development Guide was approved by the Lakeville City Council on December 18, 2006.The Guide includes recommended action items to aid the City in its implementation of downtown Lakeville’s fundamental objectives to support the vision of downtown as a unique, identifiable and thriving business district.
The City of Lakeville is currently undergoing a planning effort to update the Downtown Development Guide, which will help direct future downtown redevelopment activity and other improvements over the next 10-20 years.
This planning process values the historic charm of building-lined streets in a true “main street” district and balances the realities of an ever-changing retail marketplace. Finding the right locations for redevelopment and additional housing density are also important considerations to be addressed.
The Downtown Lakeville Business Association (DLBA) is committed to the improvement and preservation of the historic downtown area. The business community is actively involved in preserving historic buildings and blending new construction with historic character. The DLBA has adopted design guidelines to reflect and enhance the historical character of the original downtown district.
